The Flourishing Partnership of BGC Wolf Creek and Wolf Creek Public Schools

A partnership between Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) and BGC Wolf Creek is bringing more opportunities for youth, and peace of mind for families.

BGC Wolf Creek, in operation for two decades, has its home base out of a former WCPS school in Ponoka, an agreement that has continued for many years. The group provides before and after school programming for youth. This programming extends beyond providing a safe space for children after school hours; it encompasses tutoring, diverse activities, creative projects, and avenues for positive socialization.

In the past two years, BGC Wolf Creek has expanded from its Ponoka location to schools in Lacombe, Bentley and Rimbey, through a partnership with WCPS. The expansion into new communities was fueled by community needs assessments, reflecting the program's commitment to responding to local demands and enhancing educational support in these areas.

WCPS Board Chair Luci Henry explained students’ lives are enriched by this partnership.

"We witness this daily at BGC Wolf Creek’s locations and in the impact that extends to our schools," said Henry.

“From the child who seeks solace in books after a long school day, to the groups of friends who discover their love for science through hands-on experiments. Each craft created, each homework problem solved, and every new game learned on the playground echoes the success of our collective endeavor."

The expansion, like the partnership in Ponoka, is provided by space within WCPS schools.

”We have received a positive response from our schools, where they have been open to setting aside space for this programming within school buildings,” said Tim De Ruyck, WCPS superintendent. “We see the win/win that this creates for our students, families, and the community.”

“For us, people look at our connection with Wolf Creek and are dumbfounded by it and it's unusual for clubs like this. I give that credit to the leadership at Wolf Creek Public Schools, they have always looked at it as what can we do to make this the best it can be," said Beth Reitz, BGC Wolf Creek executive director.

As this partnership continues to grow, it stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in nurturing the next generation of learners and leaders.
